Katherine A Knight - I remember the moment my mom was taken to the hospital and being told "It's not safe. Your Mom cannot go home and live by herself anymore." The next few weeks were a blur. I was doing my best, yet my mom was very unhappy and spiteful. All she wanted was to go home; she said it, yelled it, and repeatedly tried to leave. She said, "I was starving her!" Yet I fed her 8 times a day. Anxiety was high. Family dinners became obsolete, and my youngest son moved out.
My emotions were constantly changing. Frustration, anger, feeling overwhelmed, sleepless nights, self-doubt, feelings of failure, and constantly worrying were relentless. Life as I knew it was over and Chaos was rampant. By nature, I'm a problem solver, so I decided not to accept this. I was going to find my happy life back. I read, took every class out there, joined support groups, and talked with caregivers implementing their suggestions. I used the ideas that worked and filed away the rest for later use. I have acquired a vast amount of experience and expertise.
